At Boo Coaching & Consulting, we have a bit of a thing about flip charts.

Actually, that might be an understatement.

Walk into one of our coaching, leadership or wellbeing programmes and there’s a good chance you’ll be greeted by a room full of colourful, hand-drawn and lovingly prepared flip charts. Over the years, they’ve even earned their own name: our Boo-tiful flip charts.

For us, they’re not simply something to write on. They’re part of how we create learning spaces that feel welcoming, engaging and full of possibility.

Why creative facilitation matters to us

We’re big fans of creative facilitation at Team Boo.

We know that people learn in different ways and that the environment we create can make a real difference to how willing people feel to participate, contribute and connect with one another.

A blank flip chart with a few hastily scribbled words can do the job, of course. But we love asking: how can we make this more engaging?

Colour, illustrations, lettering, icons and visual prompts can all help bring learning to life. They catch people's attention, make information easier to navigate and, importantly, inject a little joy into the room.

And joy matters.

Whether we're exploring leadership, coaching skills or wellbeing, we want our participants to walk into a room and immediately sense that thought and care have gone into creating their learning experience.

Our love affair with Neuland kit

This is where our Neuland kit comes in.

Anyone who loves creative facilitation will understand the peculiar excitement of a fabulous set of markers! The quality, range and versatility of the Neuland kit make it a firm favourite at Boo.

Our kit helps us create everything from colourful welcome charts and programme maps to visual instructions, reflection activities and resources that develop throughout the day.

There’s something wonderfully human about hand-drawn materials, too. They don't need to be perfect - in fact, we think that's part of their charm. They invite people in and help create a learning environment that feels less corporate and more conversational.

A Team Boo favourite: World Café tablecloths

One of our particular favourites has to be the pre-made World Café tablecloths.

World Café activities are brilliant for encouraging conversation, sharing ideas and giving everyone an opportunity to contribute. Traditionally, though, getting everything ready can involve quite a bit of facilitator preparation.

The pre-made tablecloths have been a bit of a game changer for us.

They're visually engaging, incredibly easy for participants to understand and start using, and they help create exactly the kind of collaborative atmosphere we're looking for.

But there's another benefit that we really value: they save us time.

Anything that reduces our preparation time without compromising the participant experience gets a big Team Boo thumbs-up.

Because the less time we're spending drawing out templates and preparing materials immediately before a session, the more time we have for something much more important: connecting with the people in the room.

We can welcome participants properly, have conversations, notice how people are arriving and begin building relationships before the learning has even officially started.

For us, that's time very well spent.

Creativity doesn't have to mean being an artist

One of the things we sometimes hear from people when they see our flip charts is:

"I could never draw something like that!"

Our response? You absolutely don't need to be an artist.

Creative facilitation isn't about producing gallery-worthy artwork. It's about communication, curiosity and creating something that helps people engage.

A simple border, a splash of colour, a few icons or some thoughtfully chosen lettering can completely transform a flip chart. Start small, experiment and, most importantly, have fun with it.

Our Boo-tiful flip charts have developed over years of playing, practising, borrowing inspiration and discovering what works for us.

More connection, more creativity, more joy

Ultimately, that's why we keep coming back to creative facilitation.

The pens, flip charts and World Café tablecloths might be the visible things, but underneath them is something much more important.

They're tools that help us create connection.

They help us make learning feel accessible. They spark conversations. They encourage people to pick up a pen and add their own ideas. They give people something visual to return to. And they help transform an ordinary training room into a space where people feel that something interesting is about to happen.

So yes, Team Boo are very definitely Neuland kit fans and shop via Inky Thinking Shop in the UK.

But even more than that, we're fans of anything that helps us create learning experiences filled with creativity, connection and joy.
